PickMe (similar to Uber) operates in Kandy for short city trips. However, for tourist day tours, intercity hires to Colombo or Ella, or airport transfers, a private driver with a fixed rate is far more comfortable and reliable. My hybrid Toyota Axio is air-conditioned, well-maintained, and driven by an experienced local.

For very short Kandy city trips (under 10km), PickMe can be slightly cheaper. But PickMe charges surge pricing of 1.5 to 3x during peak hours and weekends, common in Kandy where the driver pool is small. For intercity routes like Kandy to Colombo (115km), PickMe with surge regularly costs more than my fixed LKR 14,000 rate. No, not as a full journey. The Colombo to Kandy to Ella to Badulla line was damaged by a cyclone in 2025 and the full route is not operational as of 2026. Partial service runs on the Ambewela to Ella to Badulla section, but you cannot take the classic scenic train from Kandy to Ella. Repair is estimated for mid-2027. Nanu Oya is the correct station for Nuwara Eliya, it is about 6 km from the town centre. Ambewela is the next station further along the line toward Ella, situated higher in the hills near Ambewela Farm. They are different places. However, note that the Kandy to Nanu Oya section of the hill country line is currently affected by cyclone damage from 2025. My rates are per car, not per person, so a group of 4 pays the same as 1 or 2 travellers. The Kandy to Ella transfer starts from LKR 16,000 for the whole car, which works out to about LKR 4,500 per person for a group of 4. The Toyota Axio Hybrid comfortably seats up to 4 passengers with luggage. All quotes are fixed, no surge pricing regardless of time of day.

Yes. I offer 24-hour airport pickup from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA / CMB) including late-night and early-morning arrivals. If your flight lands late, say 22:00 or later, I can either drive directly to Kandy that night or, if you prefer, help arrange a Negombo hotel stop and transfer to Kandy the following morning.
